Chinese discounts work opposite to English: 八折 (bā zhé) means pay 80%, i.e. 20% off. 五折 means 50% off. The number tells you what you PAY, not what you save.

Use 打折 (dǎzhé) as the verb form: 打八折 = give a 20% discount. 打折扣 = give a discount.
