扁鹊 was the name of a legendary doctor of the Yellow Emperor's time, given to him for his skill. In the story of
蔡桓公 the duke brushes off each warning as the illness sinks from his skin to his marrow, and dies of it: the source of
讳疾忌医, hiding an illness for fear of the doctor.
