Huizhou is part of the Pearl River Delta cluster. It was the place of exile for the Song poet
苏轼 from 1094, where he famously wrote
日啖荔枝三百颗，
不辞长作岭南人 ("eating 300 lychees a day, I'd gladly stay in Lingnan forever"). Today it is better known as a bedroom community for Shenzhen commuters.
