history

Named after Ming scholar-official 徐光启 (Xu Guangqi, 1562-1633), a Jesuit convert who translated Euclid with Matteo Ricci and whose family settled here. The Xujiahui Catholic Cathedral (est. 1906) still anchors the area, now a major Puxi shopping hub.
