Older variant of the modern standard
希伯来 (Xībólái). Both characters
莱 and
来 are read 'lái';
莱 originally meant 'goosefoot/pigweed' but here is purely a transliteration syllable. CC-CEDICT lists
希伯莱 as a variant of
希伯来. In contemporary mainland writing, prefer
希伯来; you'll still see
希伯莱 in older books and Taiwan publications.
