In the legend, her husband Fan Qiliang (
范喜良) was conscripted to build the Great Wall during the Qin dynasty
秦朝 and died there. She traveled north to find him, and her tears were so bitter they collapsed a section of the Wall, revealing his bones. The tale is one of China's Four Great Folktales (
四大民间传说), alongside Liang Shanbo & Zhu Yingtai
