'Jiajing' is the reign-era name (年号), not a personal name - his given name was Zhu Houcong (朱厚熜). Obsessed with Daoist immortality elixirs; a group of palace maids nearly assassinated him in 1542 (the 壬寅宫变). Central figure in the acclaimed TV drama 《大明王朝1566》.
