'Jiajing' is the reign-era name (年号), not a personal name — his given name was Zhu Houcong (朱厚熜). Obsessed with Daoist immortality elixirs; a group of palace maids nearly assassinated him in 1542 (the 壬寅宫变). Central figure in the acclaimed TV drama《大明王朝1566》.
