同传 is the everyday short form of
同声传译 (tóngshēng chuányì). It refers both to the activity (interpreting in real time) and to the interpreter doing it. Compare with
交传 (jiāochuán) = consecutive interpreting, where the interpreter waits for the speaker to pause.
