农历新年 ('agricultural-calendar new year') is the formal / pan-Asian-friendly term, used in Singapore, Malaysia and increasingly in international contexts. 春节 (Chūnjié, 'Spring Festival') is the more common everyday Mandarin name in mainland China.

The 农历 is a lunisolar calendar: months track the moon, but leap months keep it in sync with the solar year. The new year falls between Jan 21 and Feb 20.
