Four syllables: 伯 + 恩 + 斯 + 坦 ≈ 'Bo-en-si-tan' to Bernstein. The 斯坦 ending appears in many German/Eastern-European '-stein' surnames (爱因斯坦 Einstein, 弗兰肯斯坦 Frankenstein) and shouldn't be confused with the 'stan' country suffix (巴基斯坦 Pakistan).
