亟需

Formal/written. Standard in news headlines, government reports, NGO appeals, and policy documents. Spoken Chinese uses 急需 (with 急 'urgent' instead of 亟) or 急着要. Note: 亟 and 急 are pronounced identically and overlap in meaning, but 亟需 is the formal-register choice.

mistakes

亟 has two readings: jí ('urgently,' as in 亟需 / 亟待) and qì ('repeatedly,' a rare classical reading). In modern Chinese you'll virtually only meet jí. Don't confuse 亟 with 极 ('extremely') - they're different characters.
