Tips

history
Designed under Sun Yat-sen (孙中山, hence ) in the 1910s as a modern Chinese alternative to both the Qing changshan and Western three-piece suits. The four pockets were later given a political reading ('propriety, righteousness, honesty, shame' — 礼义廉耻), the five front buttons as the five branches of the Republic of China government.
