东阳

Modern Dongyang in Zhejiang is famous for two things: 东阳木雕 (Dōngyáng mùdiāo, 'Dongyang wood carving'), one of China's four great wood-carving traditions; and 横店影视城 (Héngdiàn Yǐngshì Chéng, 'Hengdian World Studios') — the world's largest outdoor film-set complex, where most Chinese period dramas are shot. The name literally means 'east of the sun' (东 east + 阳 sun-side / south of mountain).

An old name dating back to the Spring and Autumn period — Xinhua records six different ancient 东阳 sites in modern Shandong, Jiangsu and Hebei. The Zhejiang Dongyang is the surviving administrative city today.
