In 1987, a 6,500-year-old grave at Puyang's Xishuipo (西水坡) site was found containing the oldest known Chinese dragon image - a clam-shell mosaic of a dragon and a tiger flanking a human skeleton. Because of this, Puyang is officially branded 中华龙乡 ('the cradle of the Chinese dragon').
usage
The name 濮阳 comes from its historical location - 阳 here means the north bank of the Pu River (濮水), following the classical geographic rule 山南水北为阳 ('south of a mountain, north of a river is yang').
