Standard numeric construction:
一千 (1,000) +
五百 (500). In casual speech
一千五 (yīqiān wǔ, with
百 dropped) is just as common — Chinese can omit the trailing unit when only the next-higher unit follows. Both
一千五百 and
一千五 mean 1,500;
一千零五 (yīqiān líng wǔ) means 1,005 (with
零 'zero' marking the gap).
