Blocked in mainland China since 2009. Chinese users still widely refer to the platform as Twitter or 推特 rather than X. The domestic equivalent is 微博 (Weibo), which modeled itself on Twitter in 2009.
Standard Chinese rendering of 'Twitter' — 推 (tuī, 'push') + 特 (tè, phonetic). A tweet is 推文 (tuīwén) and to tweet is 发推 (fā tuī). These stuck even after the X rebrand in 2023.
