Together with 炎帝 the Yan Emperor, he is considered the joint ancestor of the Han Chinese — hence the phrase 炎黄子孙 'descendants of Yan and Huang'. His mausoleum at Huangling in Shaanxi hosts an annual state-level ceremony.
