馓子 are thin braided strands of wheat dough deep-fried into golden bundles. They are especially associated with Hui and other Chinese Muslim communities and are a staple snack for Eid al-Fitr (
开斋节). Similar fried-dough braids exist across Central Asia and the Middle East.
