Served Cao Wei 曹魏 (Cáo Wèi) as Grand Tutor 太傅 (tàifù). Together with Wang Xizhi 王羲之 (Wáng Xīzhī), often called 钟王 (Zhōng-Wáng) in calligraphy circles. His transitional style bridged clerical script (lìshū 隶书) and the regular script (kǎishū 楷书) that became standard.
