Tips

history
First struck in 1914, the third year of the Republic, with 袁世凯's bald head in profile, hence the nickname 'Yuan big head'; the formal name is 袁头币. It was the most widely used 银元 in China until the currency reform of 1935. Fakes are everywhere, and collectors test a coin by blowing on its edge and listening to the ring.
