Hán āsībātián de yǐnliào, bāozhuāng shàng yào zhùmíng hányǒu běnbǐng'ānsuān.
Drinks sweetened with aspartame must state on the package that they contain phenylalanine.
Tips
memory
Read it as a chemical name: 苯 'phenyl' + 丙 'three-carbon' + 氨 'amino' + 酸 'acid', so phenyl-aminopropanoic acid. Most amino acid names end in 氨酸, short for 氨基酸. The apostrophe in běnbǐng'ānsuān shows that ān starts a new syllable.
usage
People with phenylketonuria cannot break phenylalanine down, which is why products sweetened with 阿斯巴甜 (aspartame) carry a warning that they contain it.
