Wuhu sits on the south bank of the Yangtze in Anhui. Industrially, it is best known as the home of
奇瑞 (Chery), one of China's major homegrown carmakers. In 2021 the city's name became an internet meme —
芜湖起飞 ("Wuhu takes off!") — originally a streamer's hype catchphrase riffing on the
呜呼 (wūhū) sound, now widely used online to express excitement.
