history

After studying in France and the USSR alongside Zhou Enlai and Deng Xiaoping, Nie became a key PLA commander. From 1956 he ran the 两弹一星 program (atom bomb, missile, satellite), personally shepherding the 1964 nuclear test and 1970 Dongfanghong-1 satellite launch.
