绕路

繞路
ràolù
verb

Meanings

  1. 1 to take a detour
  2. 2 to go the long way round
  3. 3 (of a taxi driver) to deliberately take a longer route

Examples

Qiánmiàn xiū lù, wǒmen děi ràolù.
They're fixing the road ahead, we need to take a detour.
Sījī ràolù le, wǒ yào tóusù.
The driver took a longer route; I'm going to file a complaint.

Tips

usage
绕路 has two senses: neutral ('detour due to roadworks') and negative ('driver padding the fare'). In rideshare context it's the second — pairs with 绕远 (yuǎn, 'go the long way'). Most ride apps show the expected route in advance, making this scam harder to pull off.
