Tips
usage
Almost always seen in the compound 竣工 (to finish construction) or 告竣 (to be completed). It refers specifically to large projects — buildings, roads, infrastructure — not finishing a meal or a book.
Left 立 (to stand), the indexing radical. It hints at the idea of standing back once a task is done — the original sense of 竣 was an official 'stepping back' after completing duties.
Right side 夋 supplies the sound (qūn drifting to jùn) and a faint 'finishing/retreating' flavor. The same phonetic appears in 俊 (handsome) and 峻 (steep).
