In Chinese business media, '福布斯榜' (Forbes list) is shorthand for the annual 全球富豪榜 (World's Billionaires list) or 中国富豪榜 (China Rich List). Making or falling off the list is treated as a minor news event in its own right.
history
The magazine was founded in 1917 by B. C. Forbes; its Chinese-language edition launched in 2003. Many well-known Chinese entrepreneurs — Jack Ma, Pony Ma, Zhong Shanshan — first became household names to the mainland public via Forbes rankings.
