In everyday speech she is 白娘子, "Lady White". For many viewers she is 赵雅芝 (Angie Chiu), who played her in the 1992 TV series 《新白娘子传奇》.

素贞 means "pure and faithful", fitting for a wife who stays loyal to her husband through everything. Her sister and maid 小青 is a green snake.
