history
Wrote the lyrics for 进行曲 in 1935 (music by Nie Er) as the theme for the anti-Japanese film 风云儿女. Adopted as PRC's provisional anthem in 1949 and made official in 1982. Despite this, Tian was persecuted during the Cultural Revolution and died in prison in 1968.
