history
After the Japanese seized the Northeast in 1931, former soldiers, peasants and outlaw bands there formed 义勇军 to fight back. The PRC national anthem, 《义勇军进行曲》, the March of the Volunteers, written in 1935 by 田汉 and 聂耳, is named after them.
