Around 376 km long, the Ou River rises in the Zhejiang-Fujian border ranges and empties into the East China Sea at Wenzhou — Zhejiang's largest hydropower river. The
瓯 character is also Wenzhou's classical name (the
瓯越 region of ancient Yue people), surviving today in
瓯柑 (Ōugān, a Wenzhou citrus) and
瓯绣 (Ōuxiù, Wenzhou embroidery).
