history
With 何晏 he founded 玄学, the 'Study of the Mystery', which reread the Confucian and Daoist classics through the idea that all things arise from non-being, 无. His text of the Daodejing is the version most people still read, and his commentary on the Book of Changes became the official standard under the Tang.
culture
He held that images and words are only tools for reaching meaning: 得意在忘象 'grasping the meaning lies in forgetting the image'. The idea goes back to the Zhuangzi and its 得意忘言 'once you have the meaning, forget the words'.
