爰 ('to pull / thereupon') is archaic and not used independently in modern Chinese. It survives as the phonetic in 援 (to aid), 缓 (slow), 暖 (warm), 媛 (beautiful woman), and 湲 (flowing water).

to pull; to draw toward
Treated as one unit. It historically showed two hands passing a stick — one pulling, one giving — but the modern shape fused so the parts no longer separate cleanly in 爰.
Filed under radical 爪 (zhǎo, #87) by convention. 爪 is not a separate component in 爰, so no strokes are highlighted.
