From 《汉书·楚元王传》 (Book of Han, Biography of Liu Xiang). Liu Xiang criticized scholars who were 深闭固距 (拒) — sealed deep and firmly refusing — to even test classical texts they hadn't memorized, blocking the spread of learning.
