history
桧 is read huì here, as in the name of 秦桧, the Southern Song chancellor blamed for the death of 岳飞; as 'juniper' the same character is guì. In Cantonese the snack is 油炸鬼 (jau⁴ zaa³ gwai²) 'fried ghost', a name often traced to the same story.
