Specifically the visa / admissions category for foreigners studying Chinese without pursuing a degree, distinct from 汉语本科生 (BA-track Chinese majors) and 短期生 (short-term students). Most large universities have a separate 汉语进修学院 ('College of Chinese Language Studies') to handle this track.
