Two senses worth distinguishing: (1) the visible horizon at sea — where
水平 keeps its literal 'water-level' meaning; (2) any horizontal line in geometry/design. For the geographic horizon over land,
地平线 (dìpíngxiàn, 'earth-level line') is more common.
