history

Founded in Chongqing in December 1945 by industrialists and entrepreneurs led by 黄炎培 and 胡厥文 who wanted a middle path between the KMT and the Communists. After 1949 it became one of the eight 民主党派 permitted to exist under CCP leadership. Its membership still skews toward businesspeople and economics academics, and it nominally advises the government through the CPPCC.
