Tips

history
Written in 1044–1060 under the Northern Song in 225 scrolls: 欧阳修 wrote the annals, treatises and tables, and 宋祁 the biographies. Its aim was 'more events, fewer words' than the old history, and it added detailed tables of chief ministers and new treatises on the army and the examinations. It is the seventeenth of the 二十四史.
usage
When Chinese say 唐书 they may mean either history. Historians read the two side by side: 旧唐书 for its original documents, this one for its tables and treatises.
