usage

雷 'thunder' also means 'mine', as in 地雷 'land mine' and 水雷 'naval mine'; a minesweeper ship is a 扫雷艇. 扫 'to sweep' + a noun is also the pattern of crackdowns: 扫黄 'crackdown on pornography', 扫黑 'crackdown on organized crime'.
