Fangshan is home to
周口店 (Zhoukoudian), where the fossils of
北京猿人 (Peking Man, Homo erectus pekinensis) were excavated in the 1920s and 1930s. The site is a UNESCO World Heritage listing. Fangshan is also known for
云居寺, which holds one of the world's largest collections of stone-engraved Buddhist scriptures.
