Tips

memory
The name is a perfect picture: 带 (belt/ribbon) + 鱼 (fish) = 'belt fish', because the long, flat, silvery body really does look like a glittering ribbon. Along with 黄花鱼 (yellow croaker), it is one of the four famous seafoods of China's East China Sea.
