history
Legend ties the festival to Jie Zitui (介子), a loyal minister of Jin who was accidentally burned alive in a forest the Duke set on fire to force him out of hiding. In his memory fires were banned for several days, forcing everyone to eat cold food. Over time Hanshi merged with the adjacent 清明节 (Tomb-Sweeping Day).
