Fought in spring 1938 at the town of Tai'erzhuang in southern Shandong, between Nationalist forces under Li Zongren (
李宗仁) and two Japanese divisions advancing toward Xuzhou. The Chinese victory — roughly 20,000 Japanese casualties — was the largest Nationalist win of the war's early phase and a huge propaganda boost.
