南方古猿 (Australopithecus, lit. "southern ape"), the genus of extinct hominins that lived in Africa roughly 4.2-2 million years ago. Lucy (
阿法种 Australopithecus afarensis, discovered 1974) is the iconic specimen. Considered ancestral to the genus Homo.
