During the Cold War, the world was divided into two camps.
Tips
usage
In everyday Chinese, 冷战 is used far more often for relationship drama than geopolitics. Couples who stop speaking to each other are said to be 冷战, and it is a staple of Chinese relationship advice columns and TV dramas.
mistakes
A neutral tone on the second syllable makes it a different word. 冷战 means a shiver: 打了个冷战 is what someone does when cold or fright runs through them, and it is also written 冷颤. Nothing to do with a cold war.
