The Hani people have carved terraces into the mountainsides here for some 1,300 years. The 红河哈尼梯田 (Honghe Hani Rice Terraces) became a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 2013, and Yuanyang has the most famous of them. In winter and spring they hold water and mirror the sky.
