Since 2019, Shanghai's mandatory 垃圾分类 (lājī fēnlèi, trash sorting) split rubbish into four bins — 湿垃圾/干垃圾/可回收物/有害垃圾 (wet, dry, recyclable, hazardous). The policy spread to many other cities and changed what 倒垃圾 involves daily.
