usage
A critic's word — common in Taiwanese film and book reviews. 俗 (sú, vulgar/common) + 滥 (làn, excessive/flooding) = 'so common it's overflowed into hackneyed'. Compare 俗气 (súqì, tacky in taste) and 老套 (lǎotào, formulaic).
