In one common version of the Three Sovereigns myth,
天皇 (Tiānhuáng),
地皇 (Dìhuáng), and
人皇 (Rénhuáng) are the three primordial rulers — though there are competing lists where
伏羲 (Fúxī),
女娲 (Nǚwā), and
神农 (Shénnóng) take the three slots.
人皇 is sometimes identified with
神农 or with the legendary
人皇氏 of nine brothers.
